The Community at Sunset Wood has received a donation from the Gromelski Family, to purchase an InBody 270 Body Composition Analyzer to research skeletal muscle mass and its correlation with senior citizen independence. It will be used in conjunction with Sunset Wood’s Wellness Program where seniors can participate in muscle building strength classes, balance classes, and their walking club.

Muscle mass decreases significantly after the age of 50, and this becomes a major problem for senior citizens as it is directly correlated with the loss of physical independence like walking, getting up out of a chair, etc. However, there has not been an accurate way of measuring muscle mass in seniors – until now.

"This technology provides our seniors with lifesaving measurements to see whether or not they are stimulating their bodies enough to retain muscle mass and thus, staying independent longer," Dominick M. Manfredo, Executive Director / CEO stated. "Muscle mass is directly correlated with physical independence, therefore by measuring it within our population it will help motivate our senior citizens to be more physically active in order to stay independent longer. This makes us the first senior housing community in Central New York to implement this type of technology,"

Muscle mass and metabolism decreases with age, but with Sunset Wood’s Wellness Program strength & endurance classes, these increase metabolism which promoted a healthy retention of muscle as well as reducing the impact of illness and chronic disease. However, measuring true results is the most important aspect of all which is why the Inbody 270 Body Composition Analyzer will aid us in continuing the mission of keeping seniors independent as long as possible.

Quickly measure fat mass, muscle mass, and body water levels. No dunking. No pinching. No discomfort. Simply stand on the device and hold the hand electrodes.

The InBody 270 records a user’s weight, skeletal muscle mass, and percent body fat from the last eight tests to track progress over time.
